On 23 February, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier paid a visit to the ongoing specialist training of the EU Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM) at the Klietz military training area.

Visit to the training of Ukrainian soldiers

"Germany stands with Ukraine," said the Federal President during his visit to the ongoing specialised training of the EU Military Assistance Mission (EUMAM) at the Klietz military training area.

On the eve of the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Federal President visited the military training area to see for himself how Ukrainian soldiers are being trained. Germany is supporting Ukraine with ammunition and military equipment and is training members of the Ukrainian armed forces on the weapons systems being supplied.

The Ukrainian soldiers are learning how to operate the Leopard 1 A5 in just under seven weeks at the Klietz military training area. Germany has delivered 30 of these battle tanks and ammunition to Ukraine to date.

Federal President Steinmeier was subsequently briefed about the capabilities of the mobile logistics troops of the Joint Support and Enabling Service. These capabilities make a major contribution to the operational readiness of the Bundeswehr at home and abroad, including in the organisation of supply chains.
